Admission for JNV Assam 2025

Brief Information: The official notification for the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test, 2025, has been released by the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS). This test is conducted for admission into Class VI for the academic session 2025 – 2026. Interested and eligible students who wish to enroll in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas in Assam are required to appear for the JNVST examination.


The establishment of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) is by the National Policy of Education (1986) initiated by the Government of India. These co-educational residential schools are fully funded and administered by the Government of India through an autonomous organization called the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti. Currently, the JNVs are present in 27 States and 08 Union Territories.

The exam in Assam can be taken in English, Hindi, Assamese, Bodo, Garo, Bengali, Manipuri (Bangla Script), and Manipuri (Meitei Mayek).

Assam JNV Admission Facility for Students

The students of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya will receive the following advantages:

  • - The language of instruction in JNVs is the mother tongue or regional language until Class VIII. After that, English is used for Mathematics and Science, and Hindi is used for Social Science.
  • - JNV students take board exams conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education.
  • - The education provided in these schools is free, including board and lodging, uniforms, and textbooks. However, students from Classes IX to XII are required to pay a monthly fee of Rs. 600 towards Vidyalaya Vikas Nidhi. This fee is exempted for students from SC/ST categories, all-girl students, and all-girl students from families below the poverty line (BPL).
  • - For government employees' children who do not fall under the exempted category (students from classes VI to VIII, SC/ST and girl students, and BPL families), Vikas Nidhi will be charged at a rate of Rs. 1500 per month or the actual children education allowance received by the parent per month, whichever is lower.
  • - However, the minimum amount for VVN per student per month will be Rs. 600.

Assam Navodaya Admission's Eligibility Criteria

Geo Location: Only residents who are bona fide residents of the district where the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya is located and are currently studying in Class V within that district are eligible to apply for admission.

Age Limit: Candidates seeking admission must have been born between 1st May 2013 and 31st July 2015 (Both dates are inclusive). This age criterion applies to all categories of candidates, including those from the Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC).

Educational Qualification: Candidates appearing for the selection test must be studying in Class V throughout the academic session 2025-26 in a Government/Government-aided or other recognized school. Alternatively, they should be enrolled in the 'B' certificate competency course of the National Institute of Open Schooling in the same district where they are seeking admission.

Number of Attempts: Candidates are not eligible to appear for the selection test a second time, under any circumstances.

Rural Quota: At least 75% of the seats in each district will be filled by candidates selected from rural areas. The remaining seats will be open for both urban and rural candidates of the district and will be filled based on merit and reservation criteria.

To be eligible for admission under the rural quota, a candidate must have completed full academic sessions in Classes III, IV, and V at a Government/Government Aided/Government recognized school in a rural area. Additionally, the candidate must have studied the full academic session in a rural area in Class V from the same district where they are seeking admission.

After the results are declared, selected candidates will undergo a verification process for their residence, age, eligibility, etc.
